Blonyx has always been one of (if not the) most thoughtful and educated supplement companies that I’ve worked with.
Every single one of their products is well researched, so you know, and they know, it will work.
They also take pride in being drug free and actually having what they say they have in their products.
So, when Blonyx asked me to review their new Hydra+ product, it was an immediate and ecstatic, yes from me! Send it over, I’ll try it out, and give my honest feedback. But just one problem, I’m leaving for Hawaii (without a shipping address) in less than a week. Seeming like no problem at all, Blonyx got the Hydra+ in the mail right away, and I got it days before my flight.
Thanks Blonyx (and Rowan) for being so accommodating!
The Hydra+
At first I was a little unsure how I would get her most out of the product, as it was recommended to be taken during your workouts. And I usually don’t take anything during my workouts. That being said, I was headed to Hawaii, and it was going to be in the 80 and humid for most of my gym sessions. So, perfect testing grounds!
Now, jumping back to what Hydra+ is made for…
The interesting thing that I was unaware of is that we perform at our best when we are 0-2% dehydrated. Yes, that’s dehydrated! And the Hydra+ product is designed to keep us in that sweet spot while we are training.
The Blonyx website states that you should sip on a scoop of Hydra+ mixed with…
- 8 ounces of water for workouts lasting an hour of less.
- 16 ounces of water (so more diluted) each hour, if your workout will be 2+ hours.
No problem. I did decide that I like mine with the 16 ounces of water to make it a little more diluted while I’m workout out. It tastes really great, but I liked a little smaller sips.
My experience with Hydra+
The first time I used Hydra+ was in the middle of a very long metcon, we are talking 50+ minutes. And truth be told, I wasn’t planning on drinking any of the Hydra+ during the workout, but I was feeling like garbage about 30 minutes in and feeling sorry for myself, so I gulped some down. What’s the worst thing that could happen… well, good news! I almost immediately felt like I had more energy, and was able to finish the workout on a high note. Which was 100% not looking like it was going to happen.
Now, I’m not one for thinking that supplements make or break your workouts, but they can definitely help.
Since that first experience I’ve been sipping on my Hydra+ from after my warm-up, through my strength portion, and trying to have about half to three quarters down before starting my metcon. This is working good! And I have it ready to go in the middle of my metcon if I start to blow up. Which has happened one more time since being in Hawaii. And again, I felt much better with the first sip.
Just to be clear, we aren’t talking about feeling like a 2 and jumping to a 10, but going from a 2 to a 5 or 6 on a super subjective workout energy scale can be very beneficial.
I would say that if you train really hard, and are regularly pushing the edge of your max intensity, OR training in warmer temperatures, this Hydra+ would be a great product to try.
