From Jonathan’s Facebook:
I conquered my fear of heights and running in the dark… the first 5 miles were pure terror as we descended in the dark around razor sharp switchbacks with massive drop offs. My worst nightmare.
A few hours later (I got happy legs at mile 28 and that lasted til 35… beyond the distance I’ve ever run before (50k). Climbing back up to the south rim was SO HARD, especially after having come down that trail in the morning, knowing how steep it was. Staring up the trail at a 7 mile climb ~11 hours into the day was one of the hardest mental challenges on the whole day.
