Aenomaly SwitchGrade 2.0 Review – Does It Live Up to the Hype?
If you’ve ever wished your mountain bike saddle could just tilt forward on climbs to take the pressure off… or drop back on descents to stay out of the way… the Aenomaly Constructs SwitchGrade 2.0 might be your new favorite upgrade.
I’ve been testing this little gadget for a while now, and here’s what I’ve found.
What Is the SwitchGrade 2.0?
The SwitchGrade 2.0 is a compact, CNC-machined component that installs between your saddle and dropper post. With the flick of a lever, you can adjust your saddle angle into three positions:
- Forward tilt – great for steep climbs and relieving pressure on sensitive areas.
- Neutral – your standard flat saddle position for most riding.
- Rear tilt – lifts the nose down and tilts the saddle out of the way for descending.
Unlike a dropper post, which changes height, this changes your angle—which makes a surprising difference in comfort and control.
Why Would You Want One?
I didn’t realize how much my saddle angle mattered until I tried the SwitchGrade. Here’s where it shines:
- Steep Climbs Feel Easier – Forward tilt shifts your hips forward, taking pressure off, shifting you forward into a more on-top of the pedals feeling, and helps you stay planted without feeling cramped.
- Descending Feels Freer – Rear tilt makes it easier to get off the back of the bike without your saddle catching your shorts.
- Less Numbness & Pain – If you get saddle discomfort, especially on long days, the forward tilt can help a ton. I would go as far as saying it’s a GAME CHANGER!!
It’s one of those upgrades you don’t think you need until you try it.
What’s the Catch?
- Price – At $199, it’s not cheap for such a small piece of hardware.
- Weight – Adds about 150g, so weight weenies might grumble. You’ll make up for the weight by being in a better climbing position!
- Setup – You’ll need to make sure it fits your specific dropper post (Aenomaly’s site has a fit guide). *Also, if you run a Fox/RaceFace Turbine dropper MAKE SURE to request black Barrel Nuts! Mine was shipped with silver nuts but they have black.
But for me, the comfort upgrade far outweighs the downsides.
Final Thoughts
If you would have asked me six months ago if I’d pay $199 for the SwitchGrade, I would have said… Nope! But my wife heard me complaining about saddle soreness too often and bought it for me for my birthday. Now I’m telling everyone that I wish I bought the SwitchGrade years ago!
If you spend long days climbing and descending, or just deal with saddle pressure issues (like I do), the SwitchGrade 2.0 is worth a serious look. I’m recommending it to all of my riding buddies, and nearling forcing them to ride my bike!
It’s not a flashy upgrade, but it might be the one that makes your rides way more enjoyable.
