Day 8 2/23/12
This was the day of the CrossFit Open WOD #1 – 7 minutes of burpees. We wanted to perform at our absolute best so we had breakfast before doing the workout. Because we weren’t at a certified CrossFit box we had to record our workouts which worked out great being that we only needed to do burpees. Four of us rocked the workout and got ready for our surfing adventure.
The surfing was awesome! We got to the beach and had a 10 minute on shore lesson before running towards the water with our boards. It had been years since I’d surfed, but I was able to catch my first wave and remembered how awesome and freeing surfing could be. We continued to wear ourselves out by surfing for hours, and eventually dragging the boards to the beach and heading back in for some body surfing. As fun as the surfing was it was equally as fun to get thrashed by the waves with the rest of the Fitness Vacationers!
Day 9 2/24/12
This was our final day of activities and we spent it at Manuel Antonio National Park. We got up early to get to the park before the temp got too hot, and before the park was filled with tourists. We caught the bus at 7:30am down the street from our house. It was a crowded bus, and we had to hold on tight when going around the corners so we didn’t slam into other riders or fall out of the open bus doors. We survived the bus ride to the Manuel Antonio National Park and headed into the park. There were tons of tourists looking through binoculars at monkeys, birds, and even frogs. Having seen quite a bit of wildlife already we moved pretty fast through the jungle and headed to the beach. The beach was a beautiful cove shape of amazing blue green water.
We splashed around for a few hours before rocking a CrossFit team WOD on the beach. It was a two person team workout that consisted of…
Swim about 200 meters
Then,
5 rounds of:
20 yards of handstand walking (10 yards each)
30 yards of broad jumps (one person then the other)
Beach run of about 400 meters
Then.
Swim about 200 meters
The workout was a blast and we had a number of people asking us what we were doing. Everyone thought the Fitness Vacation was a great idea and we gave our website to a number of people.
To round out the final day we all hung out around the pool and had our chef make us an amazing sushi dinner. Imagine all the sushi you can eat and then double it! We also celebrated the week by sharing a few glasses of wine and reminiscing about what a great week we all had together. It was truly better than I could have imagined!
