Hi!
This email is coming to you from Custer South Dakota. Here’s what I found interesting, beneficial, or thought provoking this week.
My latest podcast –
6 of My Favorite CrossFit Recovery Tools
Really, all excelling at athletic performance is… is recovering faster. That’s it. We can all destroy ourselves in the gym (or wherever), but the people who recover and come back stronger, win.
What I’m reading –
The Longevity Diet by Valter Longo PhD
The world (and health benefits) of fasting seem to be coming at me from all angles. It seems that you can improve your body quite drastically with a fasting routine. Not only that, but you can make your cells younger… recovery better… age less… (I’m not sure of the exact correct word, but it’s a good thing).
Dr. Longo has studied all of the areas in the world that produce the people that live the longest (The Blue Zones), and has added that to his own lab work on longevity. What he’s found is that diet plays a MAJOR role (duh), and we can do some pretty drastic things to live younger, prevent disease, and so on.
Anyway, I would recommend this book, and you will definitely be hearing more about the fasting protocol that I’m going to be trying.
My top social post –
Well… my actual top social post was the image that I posted for last weeks Feel Good Friday of me catapulting off of a rock into the water at the Grand Teton National Park. It is a pretty cool image (I must say), but just to keep things fresh…
…my second best (which still had over 300 likes) was an image of me doing the CrossFit workout DT in Glacier National Park. DT is a sufferfest for me, so I’ve pledged to doing (some version of) it every Friday. Gotta crush those weaknesses!
Person that I’m following –
David Roche
David is a top trail running coach, damn fine runner himself, writer for magazines like Trail Runner Magazine (among others), and soon to be published author of a book called The Happy Runner.
If you go to the About page on David’s website it says “David started his team in 2013, with the premise that he could help athletes learn to live like puppies and run like rockstars while not giving a f#ck about things that aren’t important.”
App the I’ve started using daily –
Oak meditation app – click here for download page
So, I’m a HUGE fan of the meditation program from Holosync. But the problem with it is… you have to meditate for an hour each day to get through the whole program, and this has lead me to just not doing it.
With the Oak meditation app (it’s totally free) and you can simply do 10 minutes a day of guided meditation. I’m in!
