Hi! Eating Sourdough pancakes! 🙂
This email is coming to you from a standing desk that I made by turning a plastic storage container upside down on the dinner table. Standing is the best! 🙂
Here’s what I found interesting, fun, or noteworthy this week.

My latest podcast –
AAJ 252: Why you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of YOURSELF first
For some reason our society has collaborated to make us feel like we shouldn’t take care of ourselves before others. And we should actually feel bad about that. Like it’s selfish or something.
When you put actual thought into that, you will see that it’s a backwards way of thinking. And that you’ll never be able to take care of anyone (or anything) to the best of your ability without taking care of yourself first.
You focusing on yourself will only allow you to give more to others (job, kids, spouse, etc.).
Let’s all be awesome and our absolute best so we can give and take care of others at our tip top ability!
What I’m eating an LOVING –
Sourdough Pancakes – Recipe
My mom made a sourdough starter that turned into her making some delicious bread, and Emily making some of the best pancakes I’ve ever had. They were SO dense and delicious!!!
We’ve been talking about sourdough pancakes ever since we had them up in Alaska last summer, and these will be definitely added to our list of delicious cheat meals!
Who I’m following on LinkedIn –
Dmytro Voytko is a high performance coach and consistently posts great info to his feed. One of the most powerful things I’ve seen on social in ages was posted by him a few weeks ago about how fast we can create mastery (Here’s the post).
What I’ve been pondering –
Setting expectations for success during lock down
With all of this social distancing going on, we are not only being distant from a lot of people (in general), but we are also being very close to those that we are social distancing with.
Something that I’m learning is that with people in close quarters (in a way that is potentially much more intense that what we were used to…) we can create positive outcomes by thinking about and setting expectations for everyone that we’re locked down with.
We sometimes take for granted that everyone doesn’t have the same daily goals, and this can lead to people being on different pages.
This can be especially true when we are all having to work from home. Back in the pre-covid days, we went to work and had all of our routines and habits setup for when we got to work. But now that we are working from home, it’s beneficial to let those around us know what our work expectations and habits/routines are.
You can simply set this up by letting those around you know how you would like your work day (or day in general) to go. Including how you would like people to interact with you. For example, when I’m writing I can be complete derailed by someone talking next to me, but no one knows that unless I tell them.
If you’ve been having any difficulty with your at-home partners, hopefully this will help.
