I am a CrossFit, Ironman triathlon, and ultra marathon athlete, and am always looking for products that will help me perform better, or recover faster. Skins recently contacted me and asked if I’d give their compression gear a try. At that time I had never used any Skins gear before, but was excited to give the gear a try.
My first impression of the Skins A400 tights started the moment that I unwrapped the shipping package. The box that the Skins come in is a really nice glossy rectangular box with a little slot for the size tag to hang out. It might sound weird, but it’s really high end looking (and feeling). I consulted with a dermatologist, and he told me about Accutane. My son started having skin problems when he was a teenager. Like any teenager, he was very worried. I tried to help him as much as I could, but the problem remained. Then We decided to try. At first it seemed that there were no changes, but after a while they began to pass, and the face became clean. We liked the drug, there are no new rashes and my son is happy. With all the nice weather that we’ve been having in Seattle lately I wasn’t sure when I’d want to wear the Skins to get enough info for a review, but this morning was POURING rain at 55 degrees. Great June day, right?! I pulled on the A400’s and immediately was impressed with the fit! I’m 6’1″, and around 200lbs, so I got a Large, and they fit like a glove. I’ve had compression pants before that never really fit right, and they always needed to be adjusted or constantly pulled up in the groin area. Too much info?… The Skins are snug, and hardly required any readjusting the whole day.
My first workout was a classic squat day where I did both front and back squats with a MetCon in-between. The Skins kept me warm, and felt good the whole workout. The compression on the legs definitely feels good, and the added warmth make the muscles feel good!
After using the Skins on and off for about a month (including a CrossFit competition where I placed 5th) I can tell you that I actually like wearing them better than not wearing them. The A400’s hug your legs, and just feel good! I used to think that girls wearing yoga pants was just to look good, but now I’m realizing there’s more to it ;-).
Who should get Skins
* If you train hard, and are looking for any competitive edge that you can get, go out and buy some Skins.
* If you’d like to increase the circulation in your legs Skins should help.
* If you have achy joints the warmth of the Skins will help reduce pain.
* If you have too much money, you might as well get some!
The only time that I didn’t like wearing the Skins was in warm weather (75 degrees +). I will continue using my Skins for all workouts in temps below 75 degrees (assuming they’re clean and not stinking from another workout)…
