When I tell people I haven’t had fast food in years—like, literally ever—they look at me like I’ve got some kind of mutant willpower. But here’s the truth:
I don’t rely on willpower.
I think like an addict.
Let me explain…
The “Food Is a Drug” Mindset
I recently listened to a podcast featuring Seth from Berm Peak (if you haven’t checked him out, he’s a rad YouTuber in the MTB space). He said something that really hit home:
He treats bad food the way a recovering alcoholic treats alcohol.
No exceptions. No justifications. No moderation. Just… none. Ever.
No Domino’s after a big ride.
No candy when you’re “low on energy.”
No sneaky handful of chips because “it’s just a little.”
Nothing. Zip. Zero.
And the result?
He’s in the best shape of his life.
He said his lifelong asthma—gone. Seriously.

What I Do (And Don’t) Eat
Now, for me, I still enjoy a high-quality pizza once in a while—if it’s made from real ingredients, no garbage oils, and preferably from a place where I could see the dough being hand-made.
But I never eat Little Caesars. I wouldn’t touch fast food with a 10-foot fork.
I don’t even consider it “food” anymore.
This mindset has helped me stay lean, energetic, and sharp—without spending my life wrestling cravings. Because I don’t negotiate with junk food. Ever.

What If You Tried This for a Year?
If you’ve ever struggled with weight, food addiction, or feeling like food controls you instead of the other way around, here’s my challenge:
? Try treating bad food like a drug. Don’t eat it. At all. For a full year.
Not when you’re tired.
Not when you’ve “earned it.”
Not when everyone else is doing it.
Just never.
And if the only food option around is a McDonald’s? Skip the meal. Seriously. I’ve done over 10 five-day fasts—you’re not going to starve. Your body has reserves. What it doesn’t need is poison disguised as lunch.
What Might Happen?
Here’s what I think will happen:
- You’ll lose weight—effortlessly.
- Your energy levels will rise.
- Your cravings will shrink.
- Your mind will feel clearer.
- And you might just wake up in a year thinking, “I don’t miss that crap at all.”
This isn’t about restriction. It’s about freedom.
Freedom from the highs and lows. The guilt. The crash. The cravings.
You can have a healthy relationship with food.
But sometimes, the only way to win… is to go cold turkey.
Ready to go all-in?
Start now.
Don’t wait until Monday. Don’t “phase it out.”
Just decide. Like an addict. Like your life depends on it.
Because it kind of does.
