That’s where Pat Flynn’s new book, Lean Learning, comes in. And it Might Be the BEST… Book to Read if You’re Thinking About a Big Change!!
If you’ve ever thought about changing jobs, starting a business, or picking up a brand-new skill, you know how overwhelming it can feel. Where do you even start? What’s the “right” next move? If that sounds like you… keep reading!
Why I Picked Up Lean Learning
Pat Flynn has been one of my most influential teachers over the past decade. His Smart Passive Income podcast was on constant rotation for me back in the early days of building my online businesses, and his approachable style made big, intimidating topics feel doable.
Now that I’m diving deeper into YouTube and figuring out how to grow, improve, and maybe even pivot in the future, Lean Learning hit my Audible shelf at the exact right time.
What the Book Is About
At its core, Lean Learning is about creating a structured, but flexible, approach to learning anything new—without drowning in information overload.
Here are a few key takeaways:
- Start with small experiments. Instead of overcommitting, test ideas quickly. I’m doing this with YouTube thumbnails on our The Vantastic Life YouTube channel.
- Fail fast, adjust faster. Mistakes aren’t wasted time—they’re feedback. This one is tough for me, but working on it.
- Keep it simple. Don’t let research become procrastination. I’m currently learning how to use the YouTube analytics to see why videos work, or don’t work.
- Focus on action. Reading and watching only get you so far—you have to actually do the thing. I’m good at this one 😉

Pat frames all of this in a way that’s super approachable and easy to implement. It’s not a heavy business book—it reads like advice from a mentor who’s been there.
Who Should Read This Book?
I think Lean Learning is perfect for anyone who’s standing at a crossroads:
- Thinking about leaving a job for something new
- Considering starting a side hustle or online business
- Wanting to pick up a brand-new skill (coding, design, video editing, you name it)
- Or even just feeling stuck and looking for clarity
If you’re in one of these situations, this book will give you a framework to get unstuck and start moving forward with confidence.
Bonus: Pat Flynn’s 2025 Strategy
If you want a taste of Pat’s approach before committing to the book, I also recommend watching his video: From Zero to $1M from Content – My 2025 Strategy. It’s packed with insights into how he’s approaching content creation this year. (Thanks to my friend Kendra for sharing this one with me!)
Final Thoughts
Lean Learning landed in my hands at the exact right time. It’s helping me think through how to continue growing my YouTube channel, test ideas without fear, and stay focused on progress over perfection.
If you’re thinking of making a big change—whether in your career, hobbies, or personal goals—I highly recommend giving this book a read.
