Today your email is coming from between Portland and Tillamook OR, where we are on a mission to mountain bike a trail called Fear and Loaming.
We’ve started our slow trek south for the first part of the winter, eventually ending up in Phoenix for the Legends CrossFit Championship (to coach my Mom).
To follow our slow roll checkout Instagram @thevantasticlife, and to follow my Mom checkout @pattybauercf.
Here’s what I’ve found fun, interesting, or noteworthy this week…
Shoes that I’m loving –
Peluva Strand (toe shoes)
In the van we have to get rid of any clothing item when a new item is introduced into the fold. The Peluva Strand’s are replacing my Nike Metcon’s, and taking over the role of my non-running training shoes.
First, having your toes splayed out feels amazing, and it definitely adds a body to ground connection that you don’t get with traditional shoes.
Second, if you ever wore Five Finger shoes… these feel similar but with FAR more cushion/protection for your feet.
I would say the only downside that I’ve found so far is that you need to buy toe socks (which also feel nice), and you have to figure out how to jam your toes into all the right places. 😉 You for sure get used to doing it faster and faster.
Still my favorite training tool –
Rogue Strongman Sandbags ($80+)
Whether you’re doing cleans, squats, carries, bench press, deadlifts etc… these heavy sandbags add such a great real life addition to these movements that I haven’t found with any other training tool. I absolutely love using them!
They are HARD and you will get all kinds of transferable benefits from using them!
These are the thing that I miss most when traveling in the van. These and our Joovv red light.
You can get a discount right now at Rogue on the 100+ pound bags. Go get yourself one or two!
*You will need to buy fill sand for them from your local sandbox store.
Our NEW video on YouTube –
Fairies Wear Boots – And Make AWESOME Mountain Bike Trails!!
I know that I say that these are all awesome videos, but every time that I edit a new video I get stoked about the adventure and ride all over again.
In fact, if I’m editing a video that I don’t think is awesome (that I would want to watch myself)… I don’t publish it.
This trail is FAST, has some really cool jumps and steep rock rollers, and you get to see our campsite and the ferry that we took to get there.
I hope you enjoy the video(s) as much as I do!

That’s what I have for you this week. If you need anything at all, or want to meet up for a ride or workout on our way to the warm weather… hit me up!
BE NICE TO EVERYONE!!!
