Isopure has been known as one of the top proteins in the industry for some time. So when they sent me a bag of their whey protein isolate, and JavaPro to try I was very excited!
What am I looking for…
When I’m looking at a whey protein powder I’m looking for a couple of things.
First, what type of whey protein is in the powder. In this case it’s a whey protein isolate which is a higher quality protein than the whey protein concentrates that you’ll see in a lot of powders.
Second, how many ingredients are added to the formula… In most cases the lower number of ingredients the better.
Third, is the protein powder sweetened… and if so, what’s it sweetened with… The Isopure whey protein isolate that they sent me was Unflavored, which means unsweetened. In my opinion this is the best case scenario. And the unsweetened protein powder tastes a little like powdered milk, so it’s not bad at all.
The other cool thing that I wasn’t even expecting about the Isopure protein is that it includes 2.5 grams of Glutamine per serving. If you haven’t tried supplementing with the amino acid glutamine before I highly recommend it. Unscientifically I would say that it makes me about as half as sore as I would usually be.
How I use the Isopure protein…
I like to take my high quality protein powders post workout, so I was ingesting my Isopure within 20 minutes of finishing my workout. And if I worked out twice that day, I would take the protein twice as well.
I noticed that while taking this new protein powder I’ve been less sore day to day, and also less sore than my training partners. Just the other day we had a brutal workout (that you should try). 5 rounds of: 12 front squats at 135#’s, 12 chest to bar pull-ups, and max calories on air dyne. You have 2 mins for each round, and then 2 mins of rest between each round. Keep track of your total calories. Once you’re done with that rest about 15-20 mins, then do 8 sets of 10 pistol squats with 30 seconds rest between each set.
The day following that workout everyone that I talked to was sore to the touch, but I only felt a mild tightness.
Conclusion
I firmly believe that Isopure Whey Protein is one of the best protein powders on the market. Give it a try for yourself to see if you like it. Then let me know what your thoughts are. I will continue using it.
