The mental conditioning side of working out and consistently being is great shape is something that I’ve wanted to write about for quite a while. I’ve even thought a lot about writing a book on the mental side of fitness.
I believe that getting yourself into great shape is all about your mental approach and being around people with similar mental approaches to life and fitness.
I’ve spent a lot of time studying people like Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Maxwell Maltz, Deepak Chopra, Dean Karnazes, Tim Ferriss, and Napoleon Hill. All of these people talk about how important it is to be mentally strong and focussed on what you want to achieve.
Now that I’m thinking about this it might be fun to keep a daily blog journal about my own mental attitude and challenges that I overcome in order to complete everything from my daily workouts and eating to my ultra marathons and Ironman triathlons.
Hmm…. Maybe I could turn those into a book. Thoughts?
Let me get back on track here. Mental attitude all comes down to what you’re focusing on.
One quote that I love is “if you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you’re right” -Henry Ford. This is so true! We can accomplish anything, we just need to keep ourselves on track by practicing daily affirmations and focussed intention.
Here are some things that I use to keep me focussed and positive about the things that are important to me (fitness, health, wealth, relationships, spirituality, etc). Writing goals at least once a week, focused breathing meditation, visualization meditation, positive self talk, choosing the right people to hang around, the free university on wheels, success partners, and world class coaches.
How can you manifest your goals using these strategies?
Meditation/Visualization
Set aside 30 minutes everyday for practice. If you want to get good at anything, you must practice. And to practice effectively, you must schedule it. I recommend scheduling your meditation and visualization at the start or end of your day. I’ve found that starting my day with 15 minutes of meditation, followed immediately by 15 minutes of visualization, gets my day started off great.
How it works
Start by sitting in a comfortable position with your hands on your lap.
Close your eyes.
Breath deep, and relax your body.
Focus your thoughts on the inhaling and exhaling of your breath.
Let other thoughts float by like clouds. Notice them, and let them go.
Go to that place of complete relaxation.
After 15 minutes of meditation, switch to visualization for 15 minutes.
Put yourself into a dreamlike state.
Take yourself through your ideal day.
See all of the details.
Where are you? What does your house look like? What kind of car do you drive?
Who are you with? How does it feel to be with them?
What are you doing? Feel how much fun do you have?
This is your ideal day. You’ve accomplished all of your goals. Enjoy the experience.
Repeat this meditation and visualization Monday thru Friday, every week, and watch your life start to change.
Practicing this meditation and visualization has helped me accomplish thing such as, having six pack abs, running three 50 mile ultra marathons, completing two Ironman’s, traveling every other month all over the world, and driving the car my dream car.
