At this time next week I will have completed my 3rd 50 mile ultra endurance race and my 5th The North Face Endurance Challenge event. This will also most likely be the last The North Face Endurance Challenge event that I will do on the East Coast.
At this point all of the hard work is done. All of the training completed. All of the struggling is over. At least until next Saturday.
But next Saturday is really just about fun and exploration.
Fun because what could be better than running through the woods for 9+ hours with as much food as you can eat and water that you can drink?
Exploration because although I have run 50 miles twice before, this will be the toughest 50 miler that I’ve ever run.
This will be the toughest 50 miler because the terrain at the Bear Mountain race is crazy!!! I’ll be running through rivers, up mountains, and climbing on boulders. Did I say tough? I meant fun! Seriously!
This round of training has been great and scary at the same time. Great because I feel amazing and the CrossFit Endurance training hasn’t beat my body up the way a usual ultra marathon training program does.
My cardiovascular conditioning is crazy good right now! My heart rate and breathing return to normal after hard sprint work in seconds. The scary part is because having not done any real long training runs I’m uncertain about how my body will feel down the stretch.
Actually the truth is that I’m not that scared :-). I’m going to crush this race and have a great buy cialis save money time doing it! The only real concern that I have now is when I’m going to be able to get to my favorite pizza place while I’m in NYC. It’s the Brooklyn Brick Oven Pizzeria in Edgewater NJ. You should go there!
Today I get to go out for an easy 20 minute run in the Seattle sun!
I just finished the run and dang my legs were heavy today! That’s all good though because I have the whole week to get them juiced back up!
Now I’m sitting on the back porch in listening to a great book called Linchpin and working on things that are important like writing you this blog post.
I don’t remember who said this but “it’s doing the things that you need to do when you don’t feel like doing them that will make you great”. It’s this quote that keeps coming to mind when I think of this last 3 months of training. It also rings true when thinking about other parts of life.
As a matter of fact I’m going to end with that.
If you really want to achieve something, it could be weight loss, muscle gain, wealth, running a marathon, or even having a great relationship with someone, it’s doing the things that you need to do (or should do) when you don’t feel like doing them that is going to get you the great results that you want.
I know it might be hard at first, but it will get easier and easier, and before you know it your life will truly be amazing! No excuses!
