This weekend the North West CrossFit Games Regionals were held in Puyallup, WA, which is about an hour south east of Seattle. Having competed in the CrossFit Game Open event I was excited to see what the level of competition was at the Regional event. Just so you have some background, the top 60 men, top 60 women, and top 30 teams (3 men and 3 women) from the Open competition moved on to the Regionals event. The CrossFit Games Regionals are held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with two workouts each day. The top three competitors and teams move onto the CrossFit Games main competition in Southern CA this July.
When I personally went into the CrossFit Open competition this year I didn’t think that I had any chance of making it to the Regionals event, but got excited (actually really excited) when I found myself in the top 100 men in the region after one of the workouts. From that point I knew that I wanted to see what I could make of this CrossFit competition, so although I was disappointed that I finished 157th in the region, I knew that I wanted to take this competition seriously next year.
I was a little nervous to attend the CrossFit Regionals event because I knew that I would enjoy it, but also want to be competing so bad that I’d get frustrated. On day two (Saturday) of the event a group of the StoneWay CrossFit coaches and members cruised down to the Puyallup fairgrounds to checkout the event.
Literally at the moment that we pulled into the parking lot I felt like I was home! Everyone was in great shape! People were carrying coolers, and backpacks loaded with food into the event, and the event was cool with that. I always talk about how you want to pick the five people that you spend the most time with carefully because you will be a combination of those five people, and this was a building full of hundreds or thousand of people that you would want to have as your five people. The energy was AMAZING, and all positive!!!!
The event was held in a large convention center style space, and as you walked in there were venders Progenex, and GNC giving out samples, and other companies (like Rogue and Skins) selling clothing and equipment. The workout area was set up in the middle of the building with bleachers surrounding the area. The place was pretty packed, and once the workouts started there was yelling and screaming constantly.
The event was set up with the teams going first, then the individual men’s heats, and finally the individual women’s heats. It was absolutely awesome to see the competitors giving all they had to each workout! I was right that it made me want to be competing like you wouldn’t believe, but it was still incredibly fun to watch! Watching the competitors I learned where I need to get my fitness level for next years competition.

Myself and the StoneWay team watched all of the events and had a blast. If you have the chance to get to a CrossFit Regionals event, the CrossFit Games, or any other CrossFit throw down, GO to it!
Now get outside and have fun by working hard! 🙂
