This email is coming to you from a Starbucks near the Denver airport where we are waiting to fly back Seattle in a few hours (for just a few days). Hopefully they’ve turned down the heat up there! 😉
Here’s what I found fun, interesting, or noteworthy this week…

This week in van life –
The Leadville Marathon – Food – Lodging
The video is LIVE! I’ve tried to capture a lot of the experience in this video. I hope you like it. This was AWESOME!!!
Checked that off the list –
We FINALLY ventured into Rocky Mountain National Park (Instagram)
I can’t believe that it took us so long to explore this park, it’s amazing! On Monday we tackled a 10+ mile hike/run that included several high elevation lakes, unbelievable rock formations, and vistas that you NEED to see for yourself!
Here’s the Garmin hike/run data.
Just make sure that you have a reservation for the park AND the area that you want to visit in the park, if you plan to make the trip.
Taking time off –
If you do anything with vigor and intensity, you need to take time off for that thing to create balance, and recovery (and new improvements). We get better in recovery, NOT during the action (but the action is essential for the improvement).
And it’s no different for people that workout as much as they should be. Even if it feels like you’re missing out. You’re missing out on GAINZ if you don’t take time off.
We just took a full week off from training after the marathon. Ideally (if you’re training hard 4-6 days a week), you should take a full week off every six months (or so, depending on how you’re feeling). This can be a hard thing to do. For me, I need to overtrain for a week prior to the week off, so I feel like the rest is needed.
Every single time that I take a much needed week off I come back with increased intensity towards my fitness goals, and a HUGE jump in results. It’s amazing that most of us hard chargers avoid this.
This also applies to work, school, and anything else that you work hard at.

That’s what I have for you this week. If you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Cheers!
