Hi!
Another Friday, and another chance to share my crazy world with you :-D! Here we go…
Fun new thing I did this week –
We hauled 205 pounds of bumper weights, a barbell, and two kettle bells with us camping this weekend, and completed a handful of campsite workouts.
I wasn’t sure how the bumper weights would hold up when being dropped on a dirty, rocky surface, but they did great! There’s hardly a mark to show for it, and I dropped 205 from overhead.
This was a fun test for our future #vanlife project that’s in the works. Checkout Instagram @thevantasticlife to see our progress.
What I’m reading –
The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer. This one sounds a bit strange, I know. But it was referred to me by multiple people.
And I have to say, I’m really loving the audio voice, and the storytelling experience.
There’s a lot about meditation, and letting go in here, so prepare yourself. But I’m loving the book!
Sport that CRUSHED me this week –
So… I have done a TON of bike riding over my 37 years! BMX, road biking, mountain biking, and everything in-between.
But, I guess that I’ve never done much downhill mountain biking. Or at least the type of downhill mountain biking that requires you to ride up the hill to get to your downhill experience.
Holy bonk city!!! I was not prepared for the amount of one dimensional muscular stimulation that’s required for a long hill climb on a mountain bike. You have to stay in the saddle, otherwise your tires will lose traction on the ground.
With a road bike you can easily stand up out of the saddle, and shift which muscle are getting abused, but this is not very doable on a mountain bike.
About half way up (what I think was around a 4 mile climb up a mountain in Leavenworth, WA) I bonked hard, and had to get off of my bike to eat some food.
It was totally AWESOME!!! And showed me that I need to do some more uphill mountain biking to get that area of in shape! #attackyourweaknesses
My top Instagram post –
A little dball work from Misfit Athletics. There’s nothing like picking up and throwing heavy objects over your shoulder (for time).
