Home workouts are the new jam! You do not always have to go to the gym to get a good workout. It is completely possible to get a good workout in from the comfort of your own home, backyard, front yard, patio or deck (or campsite).
The best part of being able to work out from home (or your van) is that you can put in 100 percent without feeling judged by others around you (if you care about what others think…).
Still, it is important that you take the necessary precautions so you can be sure that you are not doing all of this work for nothing. Check out some of our tips for getting the most out of your home workouts.
Warming-Up is a MUST
Stretching is cool, but take it to the next level and do a warm-up instead.
Do warm-ups that closely mimic the workouts you are going to do. Your blood flow will increase, your range of motion will be better so you will have less chance of injury while working out, because your muscles, tendons, and ligaments will be prepped for the workout to come.
Get Your Nutrition Right
This is crucial to getting the most out of any gym session (at-home, in a van, or other).
Eating right before and after you work out gives your body the necessary fuel it needs to energize you and recover. Particularly if you are using enough intensity to actually cause change in your body.
When your body has the fuel it needs, you will be able to put in a better effort which will give you better results. Once you’re training hard supplements like redcon1 can give you an extra boost and help you get gains faster.
Lift Weights
Only sticking to cardio probably won’t give you the results you’re looking for. That is why lifting weights is so crucial. You build muscle which increases your metabolism, and gives you that lean toned look that everyone salivates over.
That’s not to say that cardio is bad. A constantly varied program like the one we write daily will keep your body on its toes and keep you getting great results for years.
If you’re not following our program you should be looking for something that is well rounded and constantly varied like CrossFit. Then you can add extra strength training or cardio depending on if you need to lose extra fat or get those sexy bulging muscles.
Jams Can Get You Motivated
Listening to music while working out can really help you crank up the intensity that you need to force your body to change. Remember that your body doesn’t want to change. You have to force it to do so.
Music will get you pumped and in the mood. Music in the gym can help with intensity, and music when relaxing can boost the feel-good hormones so you will have a better chance at a faster recovery. Once you’re training hard it’s a game of how fast you can recover.
During your sessions, listen to music that makes you feel good and pumped, and when cooling down turn on something slow and relaxing. This will start the recovery process right away.
Creating a Habit is KEY
YOU must create a habit out of your at-home workouts. Think of the habit that you’ve created around going to work OR doing your work from home. This is the same kind of thing that you need to mentally create for prolonged results.
The great thing is that you don’t have to workout for 8 hours a day to be super fit, health, and looking amazing. Just 30-60 mins 4-5 days a week with the right program will get you looking better than 95% of the worlds population.
