This week, we made a last-minute decision to fly up to the PNW to spend some pre-Christmas time with family. It just isn’t gray and gloomy enough in Albuquerque to feel like Christmas. ?
Here’s what I found fun, interesting, or noteworthy this week…
Why Being Fit is the Ultimate Superpower –
After our South American adventures, both Emily and I came down with flu-like symptoms. Not fun! But here’s the crazy part: within 24 hours, we went from feeling miserable to crushing full workouts again. We had a feeling that hard mountain biking 8 days straight, and then hoping on a red eye flight might catch up with us…. So we bought FITNESS INSURANCE!!
Maybe the best part? We both got sick on our rest days—how’s that for #nodaysoff luck? ?
This was another reminder of how one of the most powerful things you can do for your health is to be SUPER fit. Never look for a quick fix, being fit is the ultimate defense and recovery tool. We’ll take doing the hard work over shortcuts any day.
Trying Something New (and Scary) –
This week, I decided to tackle a fear and put clip pedals on my mountain bike for the first time since my triathlon days (15 years ago!). Riding clipped in on sketchy rock features is a whole different ballgame compared to cruising a paved road.
The result? I only fell once—trying to clip in while climbing uphill! But the mental workout of learning something new is worth it. Riding clipped in connects you to your bike in a way that helps you go faster, and more connection is actually safer.
What’s something you’ve wanted to try but held back because it feels scary? Take the leap—you just might surprise yourself!
Being Ready for Anything –
On Tuesday, we decided—on a whim—to spend the day snowboarding. We didn’t get tired, and we weren’t even sore the next day. Moments like this are why staying fit is so important to me.
Fitness isn’t just about workouts; it’s about being ready for adventures whenever they come up. It’s priceless knowing you can crush a spontaneous day on the slopes without a second thought.
Every time I don’t feel like working out, I remind myself of this: being fit makes life more fun, and it’s always worth the effort.
That’s what I have for you this week. I hope this email brought you a dose of motivation—or at least a good laugh!
What’s one thing you’re doing this week to challenge yourself? Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to hear about it.
Cheers to health, happiness, and endless adventures!
