After checking the weather report for the next 24 hours at Steven’s Pass it was clear that I needed to plan on heading up the mountain. Yesterday Steven’s Pass ski resort was projected to get 7-10 inches of new snow. I rallied my brother and we were set to head up the mountain in the morning. After making plans I was still considering doing a second CrossFit workout for the day and I decided to go for it! If you’re a friend of mine on Facebook or follow me on Twitter you’ve already seen this workout:
5 rounds for time of:
50 jumps (18 inches above outstretched arm)
40 squats
30 sit ups
20 push ups
10 pull ups
I finished the CrossFit workout in 31 minutes. Those jumps were a killer! I split them up into 10 touches at a time with my right arm and then my left arm. By the 3rd round I could only jump 5 times in a row before taking a break. Ouch!!!
I should’ve known that those jumps would come back to bite me while snowboarding, but with CrossFit you want to be ready for anything at anytime! 🙂
When I woke up to get ready to leave for Steven’s Pass I checked the snow report to make sure they got at least 7 inches of fresh and to my amazement they received 23 inches of new snow overnight!!!! This was a blessing and a pain in my butt! There was actually so much powder that it was extremely hard to get used to riding the snow. One small lean to the front of the snowboard set me tumbling head first into the snow. Because there was so much snow this didn’t hurt at all but it was pretty frustrating to fall down 10 times every run. After completing about 10 runs I’d started to get used to riding in the super deep snow and the falls were less frequent which made for an amazing day of snowboarding. We rode the mountain hard from 9:30am to 3pm, and by the last run my legs were burning so bad that I had to stop to let the lactic acid clear from my quads! This is where we spin back to the CrossFit. The CrossFit has giving me the strength and endurance to snowboard hard all day long, but the CrossFit workouts that I completed the days before snowboarding made my legs hate me during the snowboarding! The truth is that I wouldn’t have it any other way and love both CrossFit and snowboarding and can’t wait to play again soon!!!
Enjoy this video of my snowboarding experience!!!
