On this Memorial Day kick off to summer what would be better than heading over to beautiful Lake Chelan? Thanks to my good friend Kristina Coleman for the reminder! I have my bike on the back of the car, my wetsuit in my bag, and my running shoes on my feet! There’s a great Half Ironman race coming up in July called the ChelanMan that I’m doing with some friends. If you’re racing the ChelanMan let me know!
Let me bounce back in time to let you know about the workouts that I completed this week. On Wednesday I got in the pool for a CrossFit WOD that consisted of 5 rounds of: 50 meter swim, and 25 push ups. When doing the WOD the push ups shut down my arms and it really made me focus on using my core to rotate my body through the water. I completed the WOD in 11 minutes and followed it up with a 20 minute steady state swim. My swimming is a constant work in progress so it’s always interesting to discover new things each time. My swim coach said that I need to focus on being more like a ballerina. 🙂
Yesterday I did an interval bike ride that was 7 minutes on and 3 minutes off for 3 rounds. Riding is interesting for me because it always seems too easy. I pounded the pedals for 7 minutes each time and the only thing that really bothered me was keeping my head up in the arrow bars. I’m also hearing a weird creaking noise coming from my Quintana Roo bike frame. The frame was sent back to Quintana Roo once to be tested for a stress crack and they found nothing, but I don’t know why it would be making so much noise…
This morning I hopped out of bed and decided to do the dreaded Fran CrossFit workout, and for some ridiculous reason once I got to the gym I decided to do a double Fran. This means that you do 21, 15, 9, 21, 15, 9 of thrusters and pull ups. I started the workout thinking that I was going to pace myself because one time through Fran usually kills me, but there were some flaws in this game plan… I ended up finishing the first Fran in over 6 minutes and it felt just as hard as if I’d PR’d (4:30), AND I had a whole nother Fran to complete! I busted out the thrusters in 3 sets of 9, 8, and 4 reps and stumbled over to the pull up bar. The pull ups came in sets of 3-5 reps and after the second round of 21 was complete I was burping up last nights dinner (I know it was last night dinner because I worked out before breakfast). I took a few seconds and kept on going. Everything was fine until I would stop to rest (which wasn’t an option), and at that point the dizziness set in, and I even had to sit down a couple of times. I kept working and finished the workout in 18:29. I’m not happy with this time, but my body was totally rocked so I’ll just have to get double Fran the next time around.
This weekend I plan on getting in some good interval bike rides, swims, and a long run. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to ride and run some of the ChelanMan course.
Until next time! Get out there and train! If you need motivation hit me up!
