Happy New Year! ? I’m kicking off 2025 with some big goals, exciting adventures, and lessons to share with you all. From tackling eMTB trails in sunny Flagstaff, Arizona, to diving into the Joe Ledger book series, and breaking down my process for setting goals that stick—this post has it all. Let’s dive in!
eMTB vs. Traditional MTB: My Flagstaff Adventure
This year started on an epic note as I hit the trails in Flagstaff, Arizona. We’ve been keeping an eye on the weather, and with little to no snow, it was the perfect opportunity for an eMTB adventure.
We rented eMTBs from a local shop and put in some serious miles. The ride was thrilling, and I couldn’t help but compare the experience to my usual acoustic (traditional) rides. Here’s what stood out:
- Strain & Distance: eMTBs allow you to cover more ground with less effort, but they still pack a punch when it comes to building endurance and strength.
- Fun Factor: The extra power makes challenging trails more accessible, meaning you can focus on enjoying the ride instead of grinding uphill.
If you’re curious about the numbers, check out my Instagram stories to see how much strain I accumulated on the eMTB versus my acoustic bike. Spoiler: it was a game-changer!
Book Series I Can’t Put Down: Joe Ledger by Jonathan Maberry
If you’re looking for a captivating read, let me introduce you to the Joe Ledger series (Amazon/Audible) by Jonathan Maberry. I’m currently on book 5 of 10, and it’s my go-to fiction right now.
Think: military badass meets sci-fi conspiracy theories. Maberry takes deep dives into plausible what-if scenarios that keep you hooked.
Quick disclaimer: The book covers might not grab your attention—they didn’t for me either! But trust me, the stories are worth it. If you’re into action-packed adventures with a side of speculative science, this series is for you.
My 2025 Goals
2024 was a great year, but I’m always looking to level up. Here’s what I’ve got lined up for this year:
Bike Goals
- Complete 183 rides this year, including practice sessions (30+ minutes) and some double-ride days.
- Commit to 3+ bike practice sessions per week.
- Submit at least one video to my bike coach for feedback.
Work Goals
- Spend 70%+ of my work time on video production (YouTube and Instagram content).
- Focus on process goals over monetary goals for sustainable growth.
Travel Goals
- Leave North America at least three times for trips lasting 2+ weeks each.
Fitness & Health Goals
- Maintain my elite fitness level with The Get Better Project workouts:
- 3-5 metabolic conditioning sessions per week.
- 3-4 strength sessions paired with conditioning.
- This all usually takes less than an hour.
Why Process Goals Are the Secret to Success
Here’s what I’ve learned: The key to achieving your goals isn’t focusing on the end result—it’s all about the process goals.
For example:
- Instead of aiming for six-pack abs, focus on working out 3-5 times a week and maintaining a healthy diet.
- Instead of chasing a specific income number, commit to creating consistent, high-quality content.
Process goals are actionable, trackable, and much more motivating. The trick? Pair them with feedback from a great coach, mentor, or teammate to accelerate your results.
