Getting in shape from physical exercise can be much easier than you think, and you do not have to sweat it out. Experts suggest that 150 minutes of moderate-intensity workout is all you need to keep fit and healthy. But what if you are not the gym type? Do not worry; there are many ways to get in shape without going to the gym. Here are the top four tips for getting in shape if you hate going to the gym.
Run / jog
Running is more demanding to the body than walking, so if you are just getting started, consider running or jogging more frequently.
As part of your daily exercise, the good thing about running or jogging is that you do not need any investment. Instead of walking to the market, increase your speed to get your body in shape. Accordingly, you can create a jogging routine every morning or evening.
Just make sure to listen to you body. Adding a high impact workout routine can cause aches, pains, and even injuries, if you don’t take care of your body.
Take the hard way
Elevators can be great and efficient, especially if you’re going WAY up. However, they offer little to nothing when it comes to getting your body in great shape (think health).
On the other hand, taking the stairs can make a significant difference in your fitness. Consider taking the stairs whenever you want to go to the upper floors. Or lower floors for that matter.
Accordingly, you can walk up and down your stairs at home as part of a physical fitness routine. If you do this daily, you will end up burning more calories per minute than when you jog.
Just remember that you will need to keep increasing your frequency, intensity, time, or change up your routine to keep seeing results. Start with slow stairs, move to running stairs, then start a HIIT program.
Start an ONLINE workout program
Instead of buying a gym membership, be flexible at home with an online workout program.
The good news is that there are a number of great home workout programs that will get your body in fantastic shape. If you are unsure where to get started, start following your favorite Instagram fitness personalities. A lot of them will have a program you can try. We run the Get Better Project and offer 2 free weeks if you’d like to try that? It’s the program that we do and the fittest 65 year old woman in the world does.
You can also find home exercise books at the local bookstore or on the web. Don’t worry, there is always something for any fitness level.
Most home workout programs include strength work, cardio, and even speciality programs.
In our program we love lifting odd objects (like sandbags) to get into shape. After all, the world doesn’t always give you a barbell when emergencies happen.
Diet
Unfortunately, you can’t get into shape without having a solid diet. And as far as diet is concerned, the choices aren’t very straightforward. Thanks to our modern media, and fast food restaurants telling us lies about what is “healthy”.
Here are a couple guidelines to follow…
- Eat REAL food! If it comes from a package, it’s not for you. If it’s processed, it’s not for you.
- Eat vegetables with every meal. This will help you get vitamins, minerals, and lots of fiber.
- Try to start understanding foods, and eat protein, fats, and carbs with every feeding (snacks included).
- Keep track of your macronutrients intake. This is more advanced, but really shouldn’t be. It will change your life forever. And you’ll be able to master your energy, body fat, and strength.
- Take supplements when needed. Most people who workout regularly don’t get enough protein. Try taking a plant based protein supplement from a company like mantra labs.
A healthy diet is essential for anyone wanting to be in great shape AND great health! If you haven’t learned how you should be eating, take the time to develop a diet strategy, and reap the rewards for the rest of your life!
The bottom line
With great information, determination, and an awesome support group (or coach), you can develop the right conditions for geting your body in excellent shape. And it does not end in physical exercise only; develop a diet strategy to maximize your results.
