Now that I’m only four weeks out from my second Ironman event (Ironman Cozumel) I feel like I should be doing a better job of keeping you posted on my training and how things are going. Actually I’m feeling like I haven’t been writing at all about Ironman Cozumel with the exception of my near death experience on the Cozumel ferry. I’m going to do a better job about staying up to date with the Ironman Cozumel updates.
My training hasn’t changed much from my last Ironman (Ironman Canada), but I feel like I’ve learned more about how hard I can push my body during the CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance training. Not to mention this time around I have workout times and paces to compare to. This is really helpful when you’re trying to make sure that you’ve improved.
Similar to my Ironman Canada training I’m finding that I need to spend a little more time on the bike to get my back and neck used to the arrow position (even if it’s not prescribe by the CrossFit Endurance training). I’ve also had to take my swimming back into the pool because the lake temperature here in Seattle has gotten too bitter cold. It was starting to feel like half ice bath, half cold workout, and because it was so cold I couldn’t really tell if I was working hard enough. So now I’m swimming at the Northgate 24 Hour Fitness pool. The swimming experience is way different without a wetsuit on. I feel like half of my effort is keeping myself afloat, and my board shorts can’t be helping me glide through the water either. I figure that it will be all good when I hit the buoyant salt water in Mexico.
I am happy to report that XTERRA has agreed to send me a Speedsuit (swim skin) to use at Ironman Cozumel. I wasn’t sure if I was going to use a swim skin at all because paying $200-300 for one race didn’t make a lot of sense to me. I’m sure there’s a chance that I will do another warm water Ironman, but it’s not on my calendar yet.
PS I’m compiling every workout that I do for the month of November leading up to Ironman Cozumel. If you’d like a copy let me know.
