So it’s been a couple of days since my last update and that’s because I’ve been busy!
I stared off the day yesterday with a 10k CrossFit Endurance training run. In this 10k I was supposed to run the first 5k at 85% of my max 10k pace and the second 5k at 95% of my max 10k pace.
The fastest 10k that I’ve ever run was an average pace of 6:42min/miles, but I knew because of my current muscle soreness that I wasn’t in condition to move that fast, so my goal was to run the first 5k at 7:30min/mile and then drop down to around 7:15min/mile for my last 5k.
I ended up going out of the gate a little fast and ran the first few miles at around 7:15min/miles, and it was weird because everything felt good.
Or, what I mean is that I didn’t feel like I was running that fast so I went with it.
Bad idea!!!
At the end of the first 5k my pace was up to 7:25min/mile which meant that I was slowing down, and this wasn’t really intentional.
For the second 5k I was huffing and puffing! But I just kept telling myself fall forward, keep your hands near your chest, and pick your feet up from the hammies (Pose Running Method)!
The hammies said no and although I was working my butt off my pace kept slowing and I ended up completing the second 5k at around a 7:45min/mile :-(.
Oh well, it’s all a learning process, and I hadn’t run a fast 10k in months, so I’m expecting the next 10k to be much faster, or at least feel much better!
Now for the fun stuff!
I mean the 2nd fun thing of yesterday! Snowboarding time!!!!!!
I know that you might be thinking “dang this guy goes snowboarding a lot! Is he made of money or what?”
The answer is skiing and snowboarding really aren’t expensive at all! I paid a little over $300 back in the fall for a Monday thru Friday season pass at Steven’s Pass Ski Resort. Not to mention that pass is good on the weekends as well from season open to Christmas, AND from March 1st until the close of the season! I’ve even calculated in gas and it costs me less than $10 in gas to drive from Seattle to Steven’s Pass Ski Resort and back in my Subaru. AND it gets even better!!! The cost of a renewal pass is only around $200 for the same season pass next year!!! So, no making excuses, go snowboarding or skiing and have some serious fun! I’ll even carpool with you if you need a ride!
Now back to the story… I was only planning on snowboarding for a few hours and got to Steven’s Pass Ski Resort at around 12:30. I was unpleasantly surprised that there was ZERO parking, but after driving around for about 15 minutes I found a spot. Then I met up with the Hope on the Slopes crew who was supporting the American Cancer Society by skiing for 24 hours straight.
The day was beautiful, the snow was soft, and even though the parking lot was packed the lines weren’t too long.
I snowboarded hard until about 3:30 and called it a day.
Snowboarding is so much fun that it’s always hard to leave, and I would have stayed much longer, but I was feeling sore and knew that my body needed some rest and food.
I might have failed to mention that yesterday was also CHEAT DAY!!!!
After racing home from a great day of snowboarding I stopped by Safeway and grabbed some cereal and donuts, then drove over to Pagliacci Pizza and picked up a medium pizza (half Hawaiian, half goat cheese primo).
Pagliacci Pizza has been my go to pizza joint since I returned to Seattle (from NYC) last July.
On a side note, if you’re ever in New York City you MUST stop by a pizza place called Brooklyn’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Edgewater, NJ. This place is worth the price of the flight!
After collecting all of my food I went home and fueled myself for about 3 hours and called it a night (a great night!)!
This morning I got up, had my usual breakfast of 10 eggs with 3 yokes cooked in a pile of spinach with a stick of string cheese, cup of oatmeal with a cup of blueberries, and then went on a 4 mile hill run with one of my awesome running clients!
This was a killer hill workout! 2 miles up a nasty incline and 2 miles of quick feet back down.
Hill work rocks!
After a long stretching and foam rolling session I called it a day for the workouts. Here’s a link to the foam roller that I use.
