Trail running is such a refreshing thing for my body and mind.
The variation, the way I can go into a meditative mindset, and how I can just cruise.
It’s a wonderful thing!
Today was my second long training run since The North Face Endurance Challenge 50k.
It was a semi-technical 10 mile trail run with some pretty good elevation change.
My body felt completely recovered from the race, and ready for the next challenge. This is good because I just realized that my triathlon next weekend will take over three hours :-).
After doing the 50k trail race, a 3 hour+ triathlon won’t be too big of a deal, but I’ve just been running. Not riding or kayaking at all.
This race is going to be completed strictly based on my athleticism.
These last two weeks have been treated like a taper for the tri, and I’ve been working on increasing my calories to build muscle mass back up.
After my longer races I always feel like I’ve lost a little bit of muscle mass.
But the good thing is that post race seems to be a time where my body is ready for the rebuilding phase, and muscles come back relatively fast.
Overall Fitness Level
Overall, my fitness level is definitely ready for the tri, and the only questionable part will be riding a bike and kayaking (which I haven’t done in years).
Yep, this will be a strange triathlon that has a kayak instead of a swim.
Well, see what happens. 🙂
